SAVE Rt. 41
I. The Two-Lane Alternative | II. Truck Restriction | III. Better Enforcement

S.A.V.E.'s solution will save lives, save our community, and save money - right away

S.A.V.E.'s three-part solution can end this dangerous situation, without further endangering the existence of our small towns and rural communities. Our plan is realistic, timely, and cost effective. The mindless and antiquated crusade of PennDOT's career bureaucracy to pave over what's left of rural SE Pennsylvania would waste hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars, would counteract other priorities popular with citizens, and wouldn't alleviate safety problems for many years.

S.A.V.E.'s three-part solution:

  1. Implement the two-lane alternative with modern roundabouts as the preferred alternative, including traffic calming techniques on Route 41, which will put our community, environment, residents and local businesses first, not transient trucking companies.

  2. Prohibit "through-bound" trucks from using Route 41 and other small rural roads in our community, including Routes 896, 796, and 82, as a short cut or to avoid paying tolls. Through-bound trucks are those that are just passing through. They are not picking up or delivering goods in our area. This prohibition is similar to the through-truck ban implemented in New Jersey in 1999. This restriction is legal and workable. Click here for FAQs concerning truck restrictions.

  3. Increase enforcement of traffic laws on community roads as Philadelphia has done. We need more state troopers and local police working together to enforce the truck prohibition, and enforce lower speed limits for all vehicles, including large trucks. We need more weigh stations along the route to ensure that weight limits and vehicle safety requirements comply with laws designed to protect the public.

  4. Facilitate the nomination of Gap Newport Pike to the Pennsylvania Byway Program, to highlight the scenic, cultural, recreational, and historic resources that are found throughout the corridor.
