The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation today announced that a Route 41 Executive Committee is being formed to guide the reevaluation of transportation improvements along the 10-mile section of State Route 41 between State Route 926 and the Delaware state line in southern Chester County.

"The executive committee will have the responsibility of taking a fresh look at Route 41 and proposing possible ways to improve transportation along this key corridor," PennDOT District Executive Andrew L. Warren said. "I am optimistic that this committee will work diligently to identify transportation solutions that work best for the community."

For the next six months, the executive committee will have the task of identifying a range of concepts and solutions for Route 41, establishing criteria for evaluating those solutions, and selecting one or more concepts for more detailed evaluation.

Committee members will represent the goals and views of their group or organization, and they will be responsible to communicate with their respective groups on project issues and to report back to the committee.

Comprised of approximately 25 stakeholders, the executive committee will represent communities, civic organizations and special interest groups along Route 41. The committee will be comprised of representatives from local municipalities, business organizations, agriculture and open space organizations, economic development groups, trucking industry, regional elected officials, school districts and civic organizations.

The Route 41 project was under an environmental impact study until March 2004, when PennDOT stopped the study to reevaluate the project.
